INS Delhi Wins Best Ship of Eastern Fleet 2024

On July 14, 2024, in Visakhapatnam, the prestigious Fleet Awards Function was held to honor the Eastern Fleet’s tactical successes over the past year. As a result of its excellent performance and operational tasks, INS Delhi was named the Best Ship of the Eastern Fleet.

Acknowledgment of Excellence

The event was held every year to honor different ships for their outstanding performance in different categories. The INS Kavaratti was praised as the Best Ship in the category of Corvettes, OPVs, and LSTs. The ships INS Shivalik, INS Sumedha, and INS Sumitra were praised for being the most spiritful in the Sunrise Fleet and for taking on a wide range of difficult tasks throughout the year.

Guests of Honour

At the ceremony, there were important naval officers. The event’s Chief Guest was Vice-Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, who is the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command. Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet Rear Admiral Rajesh Dhankhar held the event, which showed how the fleet works together as a team.

Operational Achievements and Activities

During the year, the Eastern Fleet was very busy with operations, protecting naval interests in and around the Indian Ocean Region. The fleet showed how well it could fight by shooting many weapons in the air, on the surface, and below the surface. Along with the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, the fleet also took part in several regular naval drills, amphibious operations, and Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) exercises.

Cultural Celebrations

Along with the official events, the Fleet Awards Function also had a cultural program that brought people together, raised morale, and honored the commitment and rich history of the Indian Navy. Not only does this event happen once a year to honor great naval achievements, it also makes the Eastern Fleet stronger and more ready to play its strategic parts.

About INS Delhi

A guided-missile frigate called INS Delhi was given to the Indian Navy on November 15, 1997. The Indian Navy’s Directorate of Naval Design planned it, and Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai built it. It is the lead ship of the Delhi class. About 6,200 tons of weight are carried by the ship, which is 163 meters long. INS Delhi is a powerful ship in military battle because it has many weapons, such as surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, anti-submarine torpedoes, and a main gun. In addition, the ship has advanced electronic warfare and sensor systems that make it more useful in a variety of maritime situations.
