Tamil Writer Sivashankari Wins National Literary Award
The Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award has been given to the famous Tamil author Sivashankari. The Sushila Narayana Reddy Trust made the statement to honor her important contributions to Tamil literature.
Details of the Award
Sivashankari is set to receive a cash prize of ₹5 lakh, a memento, and a shawl. The award will be presented to her on July 29, during the 93rd birth anniversary celebrations of Dr. C. Narayana Reddy at Ravindra Bharati in Hyderabad. The Chief Minister of the region, A. Revanth Reddy, will attend the ceremony as the chief guest. Other notable guests include Minister for Culture Jupalli Krishna Rao and Government Whip Adi Srinivas. The event will also see the release of Dr. C. Narayana Reddy’s new book of poems titled ‘Samanvitham’.
Sivashankari’s Literary Contributions
Sivashankari wrote a lot of books in Tamil. He wrote 36 novels, 48 mini-novels (navalikas), 150 short stories, 15 travelogues, seven collections of essays, four study papers, and two biographies. Her large body of work is mostly about social problems and human values. In addition to the upcoming award, Sivashankari has already been honored with the Saraswati Samman, which is one of India’s highest literary awards and shows how much she has meant to Indian writing over the years.
About Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award
- Award Significance: The Dr. C. Narayana Reddy National Literary Award, named after the renowned Telugu poet and Jnanpith awardee Dr. C. Narayana Reddy, was instituted to honor distinguished contributions to Indian literature.
- Award Components: The winner of this coveted award will receive a certificate and 1 lakh rupees in cash. The Cultural and Literary Federation of India gives it out every year.
- Inaugural Award: The first award was given in 2017, which fits with Dr. Reddy’s unique efforts across multiple genres, such as poetry, songs, essays, and speeches that made Telugu literature more rich and varied.
