Uttarakhand’s second Mega Food Park inaugurated at Udham Singh Nagar

Uttarakhand’s second Mega Food Park- Himalayan Mega Food Park Private Ltd inaugurated at Mahuakhera Ganj in Kashipur in Udham Singh Nagar district. It was inaugurated by Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal. The first Mega Food Park in the state is located at Haridwar and has already become operational.

Key Facts

The mega food park was set up in area of 50.14 acres at a cost of Rs 99.96 crore. It has central processing center (CPC) as well as well as three Primary Processing Centers (PPCs) at Ram Nagar, Ramgarh and Kaladungi. The park also has facilities for primary processing and storage near the farms. It will benefit around 25,000 farmers in Udham Singh Nagar and also nearby districts of Nainital, Garhwal, Almora and Champawat.
The facilities being created at CPC of this park includes Multi-Purpose Cold Storage of 1,250 MT, Dry Warehouse of 6,000 MT, Aseptic Brick Filling Line of 7,500 pack per hour, Fruit & Vegetable Processing Line for fruit pulp, Quality Control and food testing lab and other related food processing facilities.
The mega food park will leverage additional investment of about Rs. 250 crores in 25-30 food processing units in park that will eventually lead to turnover of about Rs. 450-500 crore annually. It will also provide direct and indirect employment to 5,000 persons and benefit about 25,000 farmers in PPC and CPC catchment areas.

Mega Food Park Scheme

Ministry of Food Processing Industries is implementing the scheme to give major fillip to food processing sector by adding value and reducing food wastage at each stage of supply chain with particular focus on perishables.
The scheme aims to create modern infrastructure facilities for food processing along value chain from farm to market with strong forward and backward linkages through cluster based approach. Projects under it are merged under comphrehensive flagship scheme of ‘Pradhan Mantri Kisan SAMPADA Yojana’.
Under it, common facilities and enabling infrastructure is created at Central Processing Centre (CPCs) and facilities for primary processing and storage is created near farm in form of PPCs and CCs. For it, Government provides financial assistance upto Rs. 50.00 Crore per Mega Food Park project.
