IIT Dharwad Unveils Innovative Fire Rescue Drone

At the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Dharwad, a groundbreaking team lead by Sudheer Siddapureddy and Ameer Mulla created a fire rescue assistant drone that was shown off. This is a new step forward in fire safety. At the DDANFR 2024 training on Drone Design and Autonomous Navigation in Fire Rescue, which took place over two days and was funded by the NMICPS, Government of India and the TiHAN Foundation, this new idea was shown off.

Design and Capabilities

The drone is designed to be able to fly through small rooms and high temperatures, which is important for fighting fires in complicated places. Prof. Siddapureddy talked about the difficulties of making a gadget that is so small and strong at the same time. The Fire and Thermal Research Laboratory (FTRL) made important contributions, such as making sensors that can survive soot and making protective shields that are flexible after a lot of fire testing.

Navigation and Applications

The Expert Professor talked more about how to solve the problem of guidance in smoke-filled spaces, which is a big step forward from the Control Systems and Robotics Laboratory. Beyond fire emergencies, this technology could be used to help handle crowds at places with a lot of people, like train stations, shopping malls, and pilgrim centers, making them safer and more efficient.

Collaboration and Inspiration

The event also honored the larger roles IITs play in solving technological and social problems, as explained by Venkappayya Desai, Director of IIT Dharwad. He talked about the institute’s important projects, like the bio-toilets for Indian Railways, which showed how important IITs are for encouraging new ideas.
