The 6th edition of the International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (ICDRI) was held in New Delhi. The CDRI was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019 at the UN Climate Action Summit. It is a global partnership of national governments, UN agencies, multilateral development banks, private sector, and knowledge institutions that aims to promote the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks.

CDRI’s Initiatives

  • Developing resilient transport networks in Papua New Guinea
  • Enhancing early warning systems in the Dominican Republic and Fiji

Role of India’s G20 Presidency

During India’s G20 Presidency, a new Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group was formed, with financing at the heart of its discussions. This step is expected to contribute to the growth of CDRI and lead the world towards a more resilient future.

Significance

The ICDRI serves as a platform for global cooperation in building resilient infrastructure, which is critical for sustainable development and poverty reduction. By bringing together various stakeholders, the conference aims to promote knowledge sharing, capacity building, and the adoption of best practices in disaster-resilient infrastructure development.
