In March 2024, the Indian Finance Ministry imposed an anti-dumping duty on cast aluminum alloy wheels (ARWs) from China, ranging from $0.23 to $1.71 per kilogram, depending on the producer. The duty is valid for five years. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has said that applicants have submitted evidence of dumping of the product from China in spite of the existing anti-dumping duties. The DGTR can review the need for the continued imposition of the duty before the end of five years.

Leo Varadkar, Ireland’s Indian-origin Prime Minister, stunned the nation with his abrupt resignation from both his post and party leadership, citing “personal and political” motives. The 45-year-old Taoiseach made the emotional announcement in Dublin, expressing his intention to step down immediately and relinquish the position of taoiseach once his successor assumes office.

The 3rd edition of North East Games 2024 commenced in Nagaland at Regional Centre for Sporting Excellence, Sovima. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio inaugurated the event. Over 3000 athletes from eight North Eastern states compete in 15 disciplines across three districts. Host Nagaland won the opening football match against Tripura. Manipur also secured victory in Sepaktakraw Men’s event against Mizoram. The games feature sports like archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, football, lawn tennis, Pencak Silat, table tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, and wushu.

The fourth Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Startup Forum was held in New Delhi on March 19, 2024. The initiative aims to promote innovation, job creation, and collaboration among SCO member states, as well as inspire young talent. The forum also focuses on increasing interactions between startups within the SCO, and creating an environment that encourages innovation.

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (IDERD) is celebrated annually on March 21. This day marks the day in 1960 when police opened fire on a peaceful group of protesters in Sharpeville, South Africa, killing 69 people. The United Nations established IDERD. In 2024, the theme “A Decade of Recognition, Justice, and Development” focuses on implementing the International Decade for People of African Descent.
