Amrit Bharat Express to be Launched on December 30

The Indian Railways is embarking on a transformative journey with the upcoming launch of the Amrit Bharat Express on December 30th. To be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these trains aim to enhance the train travel experience for the common man.

What is Amrit Bharat Express?

Previously known as Vande Sadharan during development stages, the Amrit Bharat Express is the latest push-pull train with a top speed of 130 kmph. Sporting vibrant shades of orange-grey, it has a loco engine with 6000 HP at both ends – unique ‘push-pull’ technology that allows faster acceleration and travel times.

While one locomotive pulls the train, the other provides pushing power from the rear. The Amrit Bharat Express serves routes connecting culturally significant destinations across India.

Key Features and Amenities

The non-air conditioned Amrit Bharat Express is designed specially for second-class unreserved passengers and the migrant workforce. Out of 22 coaches, 8 are general second class and 12 are sleeper class.

Ergonomic seating, cushioned luggage racks, mobile phone holders and zero-discharge bio-toilets are some of the salient features that translate into a comfortable journey. Enhanced amenities like sealed gangways, aerosol fire systems and radium strip illumination also lend the train a modern avatar.

Inaugural Routes

The inaugural Amrit Bharat Express is likely to run between holy cities Ayodhya (UP) and Darbhanga (Bihar), linking places of historical and religious importance. The second route will connect Bengaluru with Malda in West Bengal to improve connectivity across southern and eastern India.

The Railways plans to operate these routes for 4-5 months as a trial before assessing scope for improvements in the passenger experience. Fares are expected to be around 15% higher than comparable express trains.

Transforming Travel Landscape

Much like the premium Vande Bharat trains, the Amrit Bharat Express heralds a new era for train transport in India. Blending efficiency and comfort at an affordable price point, it is set to emerge as a viable alternative for all travelers.

Along with advanced indigenous technology, the renewed focus on amenities signals the Railways’ commitment towards upgrading existing infrastructure and meeting evolving needs.
