New Aerodrome License for Ayodhya Airport

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has officially issued the aerodrome license for the eagerly awaited Ayodhya Airport, developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of approximately Rs 350 crore. AAI announced recently that the airport has received an aerodrome license in the public use category, boasting a 2,200m long runway. The infrastructure includes complete Aeronautical Ground Lights (AGLs) and is supported by DVOR & Instrument Landing System (ILS), enabling operations in all weather conditions, including night flights and low visibility/RVR 550m.

Advanced Navigation Systems

DVOR, or Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Range, aids in the navigation of aircraft, while RVR, or Runway Visual Range, is crucial for operations during low visibility conditions.

State-of-the-Art Terminal Building

The Ayodhya Airport will feature a terminal building with a spacious 6,500 sqm area, capable of handling 600 passengers during peak hours and serving 10 lakh passengers annually.

Operational Details and Inaugural Flight

The Maryada Purushottam Shri Ram International Airport has an extended runway suitable for A-321/B-737 type aircraft operations. AAI Chairman Sanjeev Kumar received the license from DGCA chief Vikram Dev Dutt.

IndiGo’s Involvement

IndiGo has announced its involvement, confirming the inaugural flight from Delhi to Ayodhya Airport on December 30. Commercial services are set to commence from January 6, 2024, with tri-weekly flights between Ahmedabad and Ayodhya starting from January 11, 2024.
