Joint Military Exercise KAZIND-2023

A contingent of 120 personnel from the Indian Army and Indian Air Force embarked on a mission to Kazakhstan to participate in the 7th edition of the Joint Military Exercise ‘KAZIND-2023.’ This exercise, aimed at enhancing cooperation and combat readiness, will take place in Otar, Kazakhstan, spanning from October 30th to November 11th, 2023.

Indian Army and Air Force Participation

The Indian Army contingent consists of 90 personnel, led by a battalion from the DOGRA Regiment. On the other side, the Kazakhstan contingent primarily comprises personnel from the Regional Command South of Kazakh Ground Forces. Additionally, 30 personnel from both the Indian Air Force and the Kazakhstan Air Force will participate, making this edition of the exercise a true joint endeavor.

Evolution of the Exercise

Originally instituted as ‘Exercise PRABAL DOSTYK’ in 2016, the exercise has witnessed significant growth. Following its second edition, it was upgraded to a company-level exercise and renamed ‘Exercise KAZIND.’ This year, it has been further enhanced into a Bi-service Exercise by incorporating the Air Force component.

Focus of the Exercise

During ‘Exercise KAZIND-2023,’ both sides will engage in practicing Counter Terrorism operations within a sub-conventional environment, operating under the United Nations mandate. The exercise will involve joint rehearsals of various tactical maneuvers, including Raid, Search and Destroy Operations, Small Team Insertion and Extraction Operations, and Counter Unmanned Aerial System Operations.

Enhancing Coordination

The exercise offers a unique opportunity for both Indian and Kazakh military personnel to familiarize themselves with each other’s tactics, battle drills, and procedures—an essential aspect when operating within the framework of the United Nations. It will facilitate the development of vital skills, resilience, and coordination necessary for conducting joint military operations in semi-urban and urban environments.

Mutual Learning

‘Exercise KAZIND-2023’ is an occasion for both sides to practice a wide range of combat skills and mutually learn from each other’s experiences. This collaborative effort is expected to strengthen the bond between the two armies and enhance their interoperability in diverse military scenarios.
