India’s Horticulture Production Reaches Record High in 2022-23
India’s horticulture production has seen a steady annual increase, rising by 1.37% to reach 351.92 million tonnes in the fiscal year 2022-23. This growth is attributed to enhanced productivity and efficiency, according to data released by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
Record-Breaking Production
The second advance estimates of horticultural crop area and production for 2022-23 indicate that India’s total horticulture production has hit a record high. This estimate represents an increase of approximately 4.74 million tonnes (1.37%) compared to the previous year.
Category-Specific Production Estimates
- Fruits: Fruit production is estimated at 108.34 million tonnes for 2022-23, compared to 107.51 million tonnes in the previous fiscal year.
- Vegetables: Vegetable production is projected to reach 212.91 million tonnes in 2022-23, up from 209.14 million tonnes in 2021-22.
- Plantation Crops: Production of plantation crops is estimated to increase from 15.76 million tonnes in 2021-22 to 16.05 million tonnes in 2022-23, marking a growth of approximately 1.78%.
- Potatoes: Potato output is expected to reach 60.54 million tonnes, up from 56.18 million tonnes in 2021-22.
