Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Secures Rs 310 Crore Contract for Coast Guard Training Ship

Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. has clinched a significant order worth Rs 310 crore from the Indian government for the construction of a training ship for the Indian Coast Guard. This contract, signed under the Buy (Indian-IDDM) category, marks a milestone in enhancing India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities.

Key Details

The Ministry of Defence has formalized the contract with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders for the construction of a dedicated training ship for the Indian Coast Guard.
This training ship will serve as a crucial platform for providing basic sea training to approximately 70 Coast Guard trainee officers, as well as other international under-trainee officers.
The ship is designed with integral helicopter capabilities, enabling it to offer comprehensive training in various maritime aspects of Coast Guard operations.
The vessel will be equipped with state-of-the-art surveillance and monitoring systems to enhance its training capabilities.
A majority of the ship’s equipment will be sourced from indigenous manufacturers, including medium, small, and micro-enterprises, emphasizing the government’s commitment to boosting India’s self-reliance in shipbuilding.

Expanding Capabilities

In addition to this contract, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders recently received a letter of intent from a European client for the construction of six firm units and four optional units of 7,500 DWT multi-purpose hybrid power vessels.
In September, the company also entered into a master ship repair agreement with the U.S. government, enabling it to offer voyage repair services for U.S. Navy ships at Mazagon Dock.
