ISRO’s Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is gearing up for a significant milestone in its ambitious human space mission, Gaganyaan.
Key Highlights
Abort Mission Test: ISRO is set to conduct the Flight Test Vehicle Abort Mission, a crucial part of the Gaganyaan program. The test is scheduled between 7 am and 9 am on an upcoming Saturday.
Test Vehicle: The test involves a single-stage liquid rocket developed for the abort mission. The payloads include the crew module (CM) and crew escape systems (CES), among others.
Abort Simulation: During this flight test, the simulation of an abort condition during the ascent trajectory will be performed. Crew escape systems with the crew module will be separated from the test vehicle at an altitude of approximately 17 km. The abort sequence will then be executed autonomously, including the deployment of parachutes, leading to the safe touchdown of the crew module in the sea, about 10 km from the coast of Sriharikota.
Integration Progress: The crew module underwent various electrical testing at ISRO’s facility in Bengaluru before being dispatched to Sriharikota on August 13.
Milestone for Gaganyaan: This test is a significant milestone for the Gaganyaan program as it integrates a near-complete system for a flight test. The success of this flight test will pave the way for remaining qualification tests and unmanned missions, ultimately leading to the first Gaganyaan mission with Indian astronauts.
Gaganyaan Project: The Gaganyaan project aims to demonstrate India’s human spaceflight capability by launching a crew of three members into a 400 km orbit for a3-day mission and safely bringing them back to Earth by landing in Indian sea waters. India would become the fourth nation, after the US, Russia, and China, to achieve a manned spaceflight mission.
Chandrayaan-3 and Aditya-L1: Prior to this, India successfully achieved the landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lander module on the moon’s South Pole and launched its first solar mission, Aditya-L1, marking significant achievements in its space exploration endeavors.
