NLC India Secures 810 MW Solar Power Project in Rajasthan

NLC India Ltd. (NLCIL), a prominent Navaratna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Coal, has achieved a significant milestone by securing an 810 MW solar photovoltaic power project from Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (RRVUNL). This noteworthy development represents a significant stride towards NLCIL’s commitment to clean and sustainable energy solutions.

The Tender and Location

The journey towards this remarkable achievement commenced when RRVUNL floated the tender for the 810 MW solar project on December 21, 2022. The project is situated in the picturesque Bikaner district of Rajasthan. NLCIL, with its exceptional capabilities and commitment, successfully secured the entire capacity, marking a significant achievement.

Land and Power Evacuation

The project’s infrastructural support, including the land and power evacuation system connected to the State transmission utility, will be provided by RRVUNL. Notably, this venture stands as the largest renewable energy project undertaken by NLCIL to date. This project adds to the growing green energy portfolio of Rajasthan, with a total power project capacity of 1.36 GW, including 1.1 GW of green power. This not only advances the cause of sustainable energy but also fosters economies of scale and optimized fixed costs.

Environmental Impact and Sustainability

Given the abundant solar radiation in Rajasthan, the project is poised to achieve a higher Capacity Utilization Factor (CUF). It is expected to generate more than 50 billion units of power, making a substantial contribution to India’s energy needs. Additionally, this venture will play a pivotal role in offsetting more than 50,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions during its operational lifetime. This underscores NLCIL’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and contributing to a greener planet.

NLCIL’s Renewable Energy Initiatives

NLCIL was the first Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSU) to install 1 GW of renewable energy capacity. In addition to this project, NLCIL is actively developing an impressive 2 GW of renewable energy capacity across India. This aligns with the Union government’s commitment to augment renewable energy capacity and underscores NLCIL’s determination to reach more than 6 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030.
