Global Innovation Index 2023 was released recently by the World Intellectual Property Organization. India retains 40th rank in this index out of 132 economies.
India has been on a rising trajectory, over the past several years in the Global Innovation Index (GII), from a rank of 81 in 2015 to 40 in 2023.

The Union Minister for Education Dharmendra Pradhan introduced ‘CRIIIO 4 GOOD,’ a new set of online life skills learning modules aimed at promoting gender equality among both girls and boys. This initiative was unveiled in collaboration with the International Cricket Council, UNICEF, and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Gujarat has recently banned the Conocarpus plant because of its environmental and health hazards. This fast-growing exotic mangrove species, locally called as Saptaparni, has become a popular choice for increasing green cover in the state over the past few years.

The UK is undertaking a groundbreaking project to create the world’s most powerful laser, called “Vulcan 20-20,” with an £85 million investment from the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council.
This laser, anticipated to be a million billion times brighter than the sun, is expected to have profound implications for various scientific fields, including clean energy and cancer treatment.

NASA has recently unveiled an ambitious USD 1 billion plan to coordinate the controlled descent of the International Space Station (ISS) back to Earth.
It will be undertaken with a specialized spacecraft, known as the US Deorbit Vehicle (USDV). NASA has invited companies to develop the specialised vehicle.
