The conference facilitates discussions among key stakeholders, addressing issues and devising long-term solutions to ensure the seamless flow of credit, benefiting the fisheries sector’s growth and development.

Significance of the Conference

This conference is vital as it addresses pressing issues in the fisheries sector, focusing on the accessibility of institutional finance through the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme.

Role of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme

The KCC scheme was extended to fishers and fish farmers in 2018-19 to provide working capital support. It simplifies credit delivery and financial inclusion in agriculture and fisheries sectors, playing a vital role in income generation and equitable growth. It was promoted by the government through awareness campaigns and mobilization drives. This resulted in the issuance of 1.49 lakh KCCs to date.

Challenges

Financial institutions have encountered challenges in extending KCC facilities, some of which include lack of land titles by farmers, which the Department of Fisheries aims to understand and address through campaigns and outreach activities.
