In a celebratory move, Jammu and Kashmir’s distinct regional contributions, the Rajouri Chikri woodcraft and the Mushqbudji rice, have recently been honored with the Geographical Indication (GI) tags. This prestigious distinction draws attention to the exquisite nature and significance of these regional treasures.

These esteemed creations find their roots in the districts of Rajouri and Anantnag. While the Rajouri district is renowned for its meticulous Chikri woodcraft, Anantnag stands out for its aromatic Mushqbudji rice, characterized by its short, bold grains.

The journey to this recognition began in December 2020. In a combined initiative, NABARD, the Department of Handicrafts and Handloom, along with the Department of Agriculture, embarked on the mission to earn these regional gems their rightful place on the global map.
