CarbonLite Metro Travel
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has embarked on a pioneering journey, introducing its newest initiative called the CarbonLite Metro Travel.
Purpose of the Initiative
The primary objective of the CarbonLite Metro Travel is education. The DMRC aims to enlighten its passengers about the significant environmental impact their travel choices can make. By opting for the metro over other forms of transportation, they contribute to the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. This initiative aligns perfectly with India’s ambitious goal to reach net-zero emissions by 2070.
Displaying Carbon Savings
One of the standout features of this initiative is that the CO2 savings accrued by passengers traveling via metro will be prominently displayed on their tickets. Moreover, these carbon savings will also be featured on QR code-based tickets, making it easier for passengers to be constantly reminded of their positive contributions.
Research Behind the Initiative
This commendable move by DMRC isn’t based on mere assumptions. The initiative is backed by comprehensive research conducted by the renowned Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). According to their findings, for every kilometer that a person travels by metro instead of road vehicles, there is a substantial reduction of 32.38 grams of CO2 emissions.
A Notable Achievement
DMRC’s efforts in the domain of environmental preservation aren’t new. This corporation holds the distinctive honor of being the first rail-based organization worldwide to accrue carbon credits, courtesy of its innovative approaches like regenerative braking.
Aligning with Governmental Missions
The CarbonLite Metro Travel initiative falls perfectly in line with the government’s Lifestyle for Environment (LiFE) mission. The goal is to motivate more and more commuters to opt for eco-friendlier modes of travel.
Empowering Passengers
Through this initiative, DMRC doesn’t just aim to reduce emissions, but also to transform its passengers into informed contributors. With CO2 savings information at their fingertips, passengers are positioned to be active participants in the fight against climate change, fostering a sustainable tomorrow.
