Tarang Shakti

The Indian Air Force (IAF) is gearing up to organize a significant multilateral exercise called Tarang Shakti, as disclosed by an official familiar with the matter. This exercise aims to enhance military cooperation and collaboration with air forces from 12 nations. It is projected to be the largest air exercise ever conducted in India, involving the participation of various countries and their military assets.

Participating Nations and Schedule

While the location of the exercise has not been disclosed, air forces from countries like France, Australia, the United States, and the United Kingdom are expected to join Tarang Shakti. The exercise is scheduled to take place in October-November of this year. Six air forces will actively participate in the exercise, while the remaining countries will attend as observers. However, the final approval for the exercise is pending from the government.

IAF’s Engagements and Collaborations

The IAF has been actively engaging in joint exercises with several countries earlier this year. Notable exercises include Exercise Orion held at the Mont-de-Marsan airbase in France and the INIOCHOS exercise at Andravida base in Greece. Additionally, the IAF and the United States Air Force (USAF) participated in a joint exercise called Cope India-2023 across multiple bases in India.

Upcoming Events

Prior to the Tarang Shakti exercise, the IAF is expected to take part in another exercise in Egypt, showcasing its commitment to international collaborations and interoperability.

Furthermore, the IAF’s three Rafale fighter jets will participate in the Bastille Day flypast over the Champs Elysees in Paris on July 14. This event holds significance as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be the guest of honor during the Bastille Day Parade, where a tri-services contingent from India will join their French counterparts.
