Surajkund Mela 2023
The Surajkund Mela Authority recently conducted the “Surajkund Mela” along with the Tourism Department of Haryana and the Union tourism ministry. It was held at Surajkund, Haryana. The mela or fair attracts millions of people from different parts of India and also from different parts of the world. In 2023, more than 20 countries participated in the mela. The 2023 mela was inaugurated by the Vice President of India Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar.
About the Mela
- It is one of the largest international arts and crafts fairs in the world
- The Surajkund Mela is popular for its diverse and rich showcase of handicrafts, cultural fabric, handlooms, etc.
- Till 2012, the fair was conducted at the national level. It was upgraded to an international level in 2014.
- Folk dances and the rhythm of drums from different parts of India and from around the world add to the celebrations

Theme states and theme nations
Every year there is a theme nation and a theme state that participate in the fair. The products of the theme participant are promoted. This year, the theme nations were: SCO member countries. The theme states were: all eight northeastern states
Special features of the Mela
The mela is seldom referred to as the Custodian of heritage crafts. The meal gives importance to the crafts that involve traditional skills, especially those that are fading away in recent times.
