Education Group of G-20 Meeting
As India assumes the G20 presidency and prepares to host the G20 Leaders’ Summit for the first time in 2023, the education ministry is making preparations for the various events that will take place.
University Connect Outreach Campaign
- The ministry has launched a unique outreach campaign called University Connect, which aims to involve young people in India’s G20 presidency.
- As part of this campaign, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has written to universities and colleges, requesting that they begin preparing students for conferences and other events related to the G20.
- The UGC has asked students to serve as facilitators for foreign delegates, provide translation assistance, and organize cultural shows, workshops, and lectures on topics related to the G20.
- The higher education regulator has also encouraged universities to promote model G20 forums and G20 branding in festivals, and to encourage student participation in poetry, quiz, and logo competitions being organized by the G20 Secretariat.
Involvement of Students and Universities
The UGC has asked universities to start conducting activities to prepare students for conferences that will be held in various locations and on a variety of topics related to the history, culture, and legacy of the area. These activities will allow students to participate in the conferences and serve as facilitators for foreign delegates. “Students may be encouraged for being rapporteurs of sessions, providing translation assistance in foreign languages required for the meetings, organizing cultural shows, workshops, lectures on topics related to the G20 issues,” the commission said in a letter. The goal is to make India’s G20 presidency “truly a people’s G20 movement.”
Showcasing India’s Educational Heritage and Traditions
The Indian Knowledge System (IKS) division, an innovation cell within the All India Council for Technical Education, has been tasked with showcasing India’s knowledge systems to the world. The division has invited bids for the creation of four documentaries that highlight India’s educational heritage, agricultural practices, and water management traditions. It is expected that at least 15-20 venues across India will be featured in each documentary.
The ministry is conducting various activities and events in different parts of the country as part of India’s G20 presidency. Four education working group meetings are scheduled to take place in Chennai, Amritsar, Bhubaneswar, and Pune between January and June of 2023. These events will provide opportunities for people in India to become involved in the country’s G20 presidency.
