Transport 4 All Challenge Stage-2
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry launched the “Transport 4 All Challenge” Stage-2 recently.
What is “Transport 4 All Challenge”?
- The “Transport 4 All Challenge” is an initiative implemented by the Union Urban Affairs Ministry to ease the mobility experience of Indian citizens.
- The challenge seeks to promote digital innovation in formal as well as informal public transportation.
- The challenge has 3 stages. They are:
- Problem Identification: Cities, with assistance from non-governmental organizations, must identify key recurring problems that citizens and public transport operators face.
- Solution Generation: Prototypes must be developed by startups to improve public transport based on the inputs provided by cities and NGOs
- Pilot Testing: Cities must support Startups to implement large-scale pilots and refining the solutions based on citizen feedback.
- Solutions developed as part of the “Transport 4 All Challenge” will seek to integrate formal and informal mode of public transport wherever it is possible and desirable.
- Those solutions that demonstrate the capability to meet the transportation requirements of the urban population will be piloted in selected cities across India.
- More than 130 cities have taken part in the Stage I of the challenge, which was launched on April 15, 2021.
- Over 100 cities have set up a Transport 4 All Task Force (TTF), having key government stakeholders involved in transportation sector and academic institutions, NGOs and IPT unions.
- These cities have successfully conducted surveys of citizens, bus drivers, conductors and informal public transport drivers. This provided the largest public transport data in the country.
- 46 cities that qualified for Stage II used the survey data to develop more than 165 problem statement. This has now been curated to a final list of 8 problem statement.
- Stage-2 of the challenge is currently open for startups to develop solutions for problems identified by the cities.
- The startups can pitch their solutions at the Startup India Portal.
