Vigilance Awareness Week 2022

The Vigilance Awareness Week 2022 is being observed between October 31 to November 6 this year.

What is vigilance awareness week?

  • The Vigilance Awareness Week is a week-long observation, under the Central Vigilance Commission. It aims to raise public awareness of the dangers of corruption.
  • It is observed every year, in the week in which India celebrates the Ekta Diwas i.e. the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (October 31).
  • The 2022 event is being observed on the theme of ‘Corruption Free India for a Developed Nation’.

How is the Vigilance Awareness Week observed?

  • Various government ministries, departments, central public sector enterprises, public sector banks and other organizations start the observation with the taking of the integrity pledge.
  • Recently, the CVC gave instructions for a 3 month-long campaign period (between August and November) during which 6 preventive vigilance measures are to be taken up by the government entities. These activities focus on:
  1. Property management
  2. Asset management
  3. Record management
  4. Technological initiatives: These include website maintenance and updation and identification of new services that can be digitizated. It also identifies steps that can be taken to create such online platforms.
  5. Necessary guidelines, circular and manual updation
  6. Disposal of complaints (outstanding as of 15th August)
  • Apart from this, during VAW, the organizations undertake various outreach activities like marathons, walkathons, street plays, public rally, competitions, etc. Awareness Gram Sabhas and Social media campaigns too figure in the agenda.
  • As part of VAW 2022 observation, the Prime Minister launched the new Complaint Management System portal of the Central Vigilance Commission. This helps citizens track their complaints against corruption.
  • Apart from this, the PM also released the ‘Ethics and Good Practices’ booklets, compilation of best ‘preventive vigilance’ practices and the VIGEYE-VANI, a special issue on public procurement.
