Telangana ‘Nethanna Bima’ Scheme
Nethanna Bima Scheme was launched recently by Chief Minister of Telangana K Chandrashekhar Rao, on the occasion of National Handloom Day. This scheme has been launched for the welfare of weavers.
Important features of Nethanna Bima Scheme include;
- Nathanna Bima Scheme is one-of-its-kind insurance cover scheme, that will benefit around 80,000 weavers’ families.
- Under the scheme, government will provide Rs 5 lakh insurance cover to the families of weaver, in case of unfortunate death of eligible beneficiary.
- Government will provide economic assurance to handloom and power loom weaver families.
- Scheme will be implemented by government in association with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) of India.
- Telangana state department of handlooms and textiles is the nodal agency for its implementation.
- Government will pay annual premium, on behalf of the LIC.
Government of Telangana has been extending support to weavers and weaving sector by various initiatives and schemes. To Provide financial assistance, government had launched following flagship programmes;
- Chenetha Mithra scheme– It is input subsidy linked wage compensation scheme
- Nethannaku Cheyutha– It is a Handlooms weavers Thrift fund saving and security scheme of Telangana government.
- Pavala Vaddi scheme– Under the scheme, government provide 20% subsidy on yarn and marketing support.
Apart from that, Telangana Government had constituted “Konda Laxman Bapuji Award” in 2018, in a bid to motivate the weavers. In this, weavers are presented a certificate, felicitation and cash award of Rs 25000. In 2022, award was presented to 28 weavers. Since 2018, total of 131 weavers have received the award.
