States’ Start-up Ranking 2021
The department for promotion of industry and internal trade (DPIIT) released third edition of “States’ Start-up Ranking 2021”, on July 4, 2022.
Which states are best performers?
- In terms of developing ‘start-up ecosystem for entrepreneurs’, Gujarat and Karnataka emerged as the Best Performers among states including NCT of Delhi.
- Meghalaya was ranked first among UTs and North-eastern (NE) states.
- Gujarat has been recognised as the best performer for third consecutive year.
- Kerala, Orissa, Maharashtra, and Telangana were Top Performers among states.
- Jammu & Kashmir was ranked as Top Performer, among UTs and NE states.
- Assam, Punjab, Tamil Nādu, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh were emerged as winners in “Leaders’ category” among states.
- Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Arunachal Pradesh and Goa emerged as winner in “Leaders’ category” among UTs and NE states.
- This year’s rankings were given on the basis of period from October 1, 2019-July 31, 2021.
Categorisation of the states and UTs
To provide ranking to states and UTs, they have been classified into 5 categories:
- Best Performers
- Top Performers
- Leaders
- Aspiring Leaders and
- Emerging Start-up Ecosystems.
Global Start-up ecosystem
India has been ranked at third position, in global start-up ecosystem.
States’ Start-up Ranking Framework
States’ Start-up ranking Framework is an evolved evaluation tool. It was launched with the aim of strengthening the support of States and UTs, in order to build their start-up ecosystems holistically. The ranking exercise is conducted by Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). It releases the final report on the basis of performances of the states in India.
