- Kyasanur Forest Disease is caused by Kyasanur Forest disease Virus (KFDV), which primarily affects humans and monkeys. It was first identified in 1957 in a sick monkey from the Kyasanur Forest in Karnataka.
- Leptospirosis is an infectious disease caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Leptospira. The disease is detected in areas which have witnessed excessive rainfall or flooding. The bacteria can be transmitted to humans through cuts and abrasions of the skin, or through the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose and mouth with water contaminated with the urine of infected animals. The WHO claims that the disease can also be transmitted through drinking water or ingestion of food contaminated with urine of infected animals, often rats. However, human-to-human transmission occurs very rarely. It’s spread through their urine, especially from dogs, rodents, and farm animals. They may not have any symptoms, but they can be carriers.
- Hantavirus is a family of viruses that is spread mainly due to rodents and can cause varied disease syndromes in people infected. It can cause hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS) found in North and South America and hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) found mainly in Europe and Asia.
