Anthony Albanese: Australia’s New Prime Minister
On 23rd May 2022, Anthony Albanese was sworn in as Australia’s 31st Prime Minister. He is the first Italian Australian to become prime minister. He took the oath with a promise of swift action on climate change, gender equality, and improved wages.

Anthony Albanese is from Labor Party. His party defeated the ruling coalition (Liberal-National Coalition) led by Scott Morrison in the 2022 federal elections of Australia. To form a majority government, a party should win more than half of the 151 seats in Australia’s House of Representatives.
What is the Career profile of Anthony Albanese?
Anthony Albanese is a pragmatic leader from a working-class background who has pledged to end divisions in Australia. In the 1990s, he worked as New South Wales Labor’s assistant general secretary for six years. In 1996, he was elected to the House of Representatives from Grayndler in New South Wales.
In 2007, he was appointed Leader of the House and was also made Minister. In June 2013, he was elected deputy leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP). He also served as the 15th deputy Prime Minister (PM) of Australia under the second Rudd government in 2013. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) since 1996 and the leader of the Australian Labor Party (ALP) since 2019.
In 2018, Anthony Albanese led a parliamentary delegation to New Delhi, India. On the sidelines of the Quad Summit, PM Narendra Modi held discussions with Anthony Albanese to add momentum across key sectors of India-Australia bilateral ties.
