Notes:
Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has released a report on ‘Circular Economy in Municipal Solid and Liquid Waste.’
At present, India generates 1.4 lakh tonnes of solid waste daily out of which 35 per cent is dry waste. This report has estimated that proper municipal wet, solid, and construction waste treatment can generate around Rs 30,000 crore revenue annually.

China hosted the BRICS foreign ministers’ meet in 2022. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) of India S Jai Shankar participated in the meeting, where the foreign ministers discussed the situation in Ukraine and supported talks between Russia and Ukraine.
External Affairs Minister also participated in the BRICS foreign ministers’ dialogue with emerging markets and developing countries.

Notes:
The Supreme Court ruled in a landmark judgment that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Council’s recommendations are not binding on the Centre and the states.
The Supreme Court struck down the integrated GST (IGST) levy in an ocean freight case and ruled that the recommendations have only persuasive value. It said Parliament and the state legislatures had equal powers to legislate on GST and the Council must work in a harmonious manner.

The Supreme Court Bench of Justices invoked the extraordinary power conferred on the court under Article 142 of the Constitution, to order the release of Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convict A G Perarivalan.
The Apex court cited the inordinate delay and lack of decision making by the Tamil Nadu Governor in pardoning Perarivalan under Article 161 of the Constitution.

The State of Inequality in India Report was released by Dr Bibek Debroy, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM).
It has been prepared by the Institute for Competitiveness with information on inequities across sectors of health, education, household characteristics and the labour market. As per the report, while earnings have risen over the years, the benefits of that growth have largely remained concentrated and this has marginalised the poor further.
