India was unanimously elected as the Chair of AAEA at the meeting of the Executive Board and General Assembly in Manila, the Philippines held on May 7th, 2022.

Who represented India at the meeting?

The Election Commission of India’s (ECI) 3-member delegation attended the Executive Board meeting in Manila. It was headed by Deputy Election Commissioner Nitesh Vyas. The other two members of the delegation are the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur and the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Rajasthan.

What did the delegation present to the Executive Board?

The delegation presented the plan of work for the coming years and also gave a presentation on ‘Gender Issues in Elections’. The presentation outlined various targeted initiatives of ECI to break socio-political barriers in electoral processes which pave for inclusive elections.

The AAEA, established in 1998, is a non-partisan forum that enables sharing of the best practices among election authorities of various countries to promote free and fair elections and strengthen governance & democracy. The Election Commission of India (ECI) is the founding member of AAEA’s Election Management Body (EMB).
