Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) Promotion Task Force
An Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics (AVGC) Promotion Task Force has been constituted by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. This sector has a lot of growth potential and can promote the government’s “Create in India” and “Brand India”.
Overview:
- By 2025, India has the potential of capturing 5 percent of the global market share in this sector.
- Apoorva Chandra, the Information and Broadcasting ministry secretary is heading this task force.
- Within 90 days the task force will be submitting its first action plan.
Work of the taskforce
This newly constituted task force will be framing a national AVGC policy. It will also be recommending a national curriculum framework for graduation, post-graduation, and doctoral courses in this sector. It will also be facilitating skilling initiatives in association with vocational training centres, academic institutions, and the industry. To attract foreign direct investment and enhance exports in this sector the task force will be recommending various incentives.

This sector will help in boosting employment opportunities and will help in the development of the market and promote various activities to extend the global reach of this Indian industry.
Composition of the task force
This newly constituted task force comprises Secretaries of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, and Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
Industry Rerpresentation
The representatives of the industry are Ashish Kulkarni of Punaryug Artvision, Biren Ghosh of Technicolor India, Keitan Yadav of Redchillies VFX, Jesh Krishna Murthy of Anibrain, Kishore Kichili of Zynga India, Chaitanya Chinchlikar of Whistling Woods International, and Neeraj Roy of Hungama Digital Media Entertainment.
Representations from State governments
The task force also includes representation from the State governments of Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Telangana.
Other representations
The task force also has representation from the heads of education bodies of India such as the National Council of Educational Research and Training, All India Council of Technical Education, and various industry bodies like the Confederation of Indian Industry, Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, and the Media and Entertainment Skills Council.
