Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy

The Karnataka Renewable Energy Policy for the period of 2022-2027 has been cleared by the State Government of Karnataka. This policy will be looking to maintain the state’s reputation as a leader in the field of renewable energy.

Overview:

  • This policy aims that in the next five years, the state will have 10 GW renewable power generation capacity.
  • By 2027, under this policy it has been aimed to have a share of 1 GW of energy produced from rooftop solar alone.

Building of renewable energy parks in Karnataka

In the state of Karnataka, several renewable energy parks will be built in the coming years. These parks will also include some hybrid ones. Under this policy, Karnataka will be developed as a hub for the manufacturing of Renewable Energy equipment. The focus will also be given to hybrid power generation units and floating solar power projects in various hydel stations across the state of Karnataka.

Other plans of the government

The government of the state also has aimed to export renewable energy to other states of the country. The policy also looks to emphasize on the state’s economic development through the means of attracting investments in the renewable energy sector. Green power corridors will be set up where there will be more private sector participation.
To have sustainable and balanced growth of storage capacity, the policy is also looking for market creation in this sector. The reliability of the power supply will also be improved and it will be ensured that renewable power is available 24×7.
