The Indian Coast Guard (ICR) has commissioned ICGS ‘Saksham’, the fifth Coast Guard Ship in the series of 105 M-Class offshore patrol vessels.
ICGS Saksham is the fifth and last Offshore Patrol Vessel designed and developed by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) for Coast Guard. The vessel uses totally indigenous steering gear and gearbox, which was being imported earlier.

N Biren Singh was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur for the second consecutive term. The oath of office was administered by Manipur Governor La Ganesan.
In the recently held Assembly polls, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) won an absolute majority by winning 32 seats in the 60-member House.

The ‘World Poetry Day’ is observed every year on March 21. The day was first started by UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization) at its 30th General Conference in Paris in the year 1999.
The World Poetry Day aims to support linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increase the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard.

Notes:
The Union Cabinet approved the continuation of the National AIDS and STD control programme from April 1 to March 31, 2026.
It is a Central Sector Scheme fully funded by the Government of India. The phase-V of the programme has been extended with an outlay of Rs 15471.94 crore. The National AIDS response was initiated by the Government of India in 1992.

World Water Day is observed on March 22 to raise awareness about the importance of water and sensitise people to conserve water.
The focus of World Water Day is to aid the achievement of United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal’ (SDG) 6, which is to ensure safe water and sanitation for all by 2030. The theme of World Water Day this year is “Groundwater, making the invisible visible”.
