Jan Shikshan Sansthan Scheme

The scheme was earlier launched by the Ministry of Human Resource Development as Shramik Vidyapeeth. Later it was transferred to the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The scheme provided vocational skills to neo – literates and non – literates.

Features of the Scheme

  • The scheme aims to fulfil learning needs of trainers and learners
  • It provides course content, instructional arrangement and financial support
  • The scheme encourages beneficiaries for wage employment and self-employment.
  • Promotes the beneficiaries to get linked with the national and state job portals

How does the scheme impart the skills?

  • It uses Life Enrichment Education. This includes life skills and digital literacy.
  • The methods of teachings include livelihood experiences, apprenticeship, online certification.
  • Under the scheme, the trainers are trained through National Skill Training Institutes.

Beneficiaries of the scheme

  • Educationally disadvantaged groups
  • Socio – economically backward urban and rural population
  • Non – literates and neo – literates are the main targets
  • School drop outs in the age group of 15 to 35 years
  • Priority to SC, ST, OBC and minorities in rural and urban areas

Adopts Vocational Curriculum

The Jan Shikshan Sansthan Scheme adopts vocational curriculum. Vocational training is instructional program that prepares individuals for an occupation, especially for an occupation that requires specialized skills.

Why is the scheme important?

  • The overall literacy rate in India is 77.7% according to the NSO survey. However, the digital literacy is very less. Only 56% in urban and 24% in rural had computer knowledge. Digital knowledge is the need of the moment, especially in the pandemic world. The scheme focuses on neo – literates and non – literates. Thus, the scheme is important.
