“Mother on Campus” Scheme
The “Mother on Campus” Scheme was launched by the Tripura Government. The scheme was launched to ensure safe, clean and homely atmosphere in the student hostels.
What are the key features of the scheme?
- Under the scheme, two mothers can stay in the hostel. They can stay for a week. The mothers of all children will be allowed to stay in the hostel in rotation.
- The scheme was launched to make students more attentive in their studies.
- It mainly targets students living in government run hostels.
- The scheme allows biological mothers and mothers who adopted a child legally to stay in the hostel with their children.
- No other guardian except the mother is allowed to stay in the hostel.
What are the benefits of the scheme?
- The scheme is to benefit 9,935 students living in 204 hostels.
- During the stay, the hostel superintendents will take feedback from the mothers regarding issues of cleanliness and food facilities. This will help to improve the hostel atmosphere.
- In boys hostels, separate toilet facilities are installed to implement the scheme.
