Uttarakhand Foundation Day

Every year, the Uttarakhand Day or Uttarakhand foundation Day is celebrated on November 9. It is celebrated to commemorate the formation of Uttarakhand. The state was established in November 9, 2000.

About Uttarakhand Foundation Day

Uttarakhand was formed by combining several districts located in the northwestern parts of Uttar Pradesh. It was the 27th state of India. Uttarakhand in Sanskrit means northern city.

Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand is known as Land of the Gods, DEVBHUMI. It is surrounded by Kumaon hills, Great Himalayas, Garhwal Hills and Shiwalik Hills. It was first named as Uttaranchal when it was formed in 2000. Later the name was changed to Uttarakhand in 2007. The state is surrounded by Terai regions, Himalayas and the Bhabar. It has several pilgrimage centres such as Kedarnath, Badrinath, Yamunotri, and Gangotri. These four places are referred to Char dhams. This is why it is called Land of Gods.

Neighbouring states

Nepal, Tibet, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh are the neighbouring states of Uttarakhand.

Population of Uttarakhand

There are two geo-cultural regions in the state. They are Kumaon and Garhwal. The state is highly multi-ethnic. It comprises of Kumauni, Rajputs, Garhwali and Gujjar. The majority of the people in the state speak Indo-Aryan languages. They also speak Nepali, Punjabi, Garhwali and Kumauni. Hindi is the official language of the state.

Festivals

The state celebrates Hindu festivals such as Holi, Diwali, Dussehra, Shivratri. The Muslims in the state observe Ramadaan, Muharram, Id al – Adha and Id – al – Fitr. Also, Buddha Purnima, Guru Nanak Jayanti and Mahavir Jayanti are celebrated widely in the state.

Climate

The state has a temperate climate. July is the hottest month and January is the coldest month. It receives 60 inches of rain annually. The state receives rains during the South West Monsoon, that is, between July and September. The natural disasters such as landslides, floods are common in the state.

Uttarakhand Day 2021

In 2021, the Uttarakhand State Government celebrated the 19th foundation day. Week-long celebrations were held at the capital, Nainital. The third edition of the Raibaar programme was launched. Raibaar Programme was launched in 2017. The programme aims to connect the people who migrated from Uttarakhand. Mera Sainik and Mera Abhiman events were also held. These events showcased the involvement of the Army personnel in the development of the state of Uttarakhand. Mahila Shakti Sammelan was inaugurated.
