Whistle-blower Portal
The Whistle-blower portal was launched by the Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA). It was launched in November 2021. It was developed by IREDA. It was launched as a part of Vigilance Awareness Week celebrations.
About Whistle-blower portal
The portal helps the employees of the IREDA to raise concerns against fraud, abuse of power and corruption. The portal is a part of “Zero Tolerance” towards corruption of IREDA. Along with the portal a vigilance journal Pahal was also released.
Need for the Whistle-blower portal
India ranked 81 in the Corruption Perception Index among 180 countries. Bihar and Rajasthan are the most corrupted states. The India Corruption Survey held in 2019, says that, 51% of the participants agreed that they have paid bribes. In India, the economic loses due to corruption and fraud in National Rural Health Mission has been estimated as 13 billion USD. Therefore, it is essential for every governmental department to create a portal to complain fraud and corruption. Such portals help to submit complaints anonymously. Also, it protects the identity of the complainer.
Origin of the term “Whistle Blower”
Whistle Blower is the person who exposes information. The term was coined by a US Activist Ralph Nader. He was involved in consumer protection and environmentalism. A whistle is used to alert a crowd or public. The whistle-blower in politics or journalism is interpreted as revealing a fraud or abuse of power.
