Azad Hind
Th Azad Hind was a provisional government of India. It was established during second world war. It was established in Japanese occupied Singapore. The government was created in 1943. The government was largely dependent on the Japanese empire.
About Azad Hind
It was a political movement that originated outside India to support the Axis power. The main objective of the movement was to liberate India from the British rule. It was established by the Indian nationalists who were in exile. It was largely inspired by the concepts of Subhash Chandra Bose. He was also the leader of Azad Hind. The Azad Hind Government claimed authority over military personnel and Indian civilians in the South east Asian British colonial territories. The Government had its own court, currency and civil code. The existence of Azad Hind provided a greater importance to the independence of India. In 1943, Japan gave the nominal authority of Japanese occupied Andaman and Nicobar Islands to the Azad Hind government.
Establishment
The Azad Hind was formed during two conferences of Indian expatriates. One was held in Tokyo in March in 1942. It was held under the leadership of Rash Behari Bose. The second conference invited Subhash Chandra Bose. He was then living in Germany and reached Japan to attend the conference in a submarine. Rash Behari Bose was ageing and thus failed to secure the resources for the Indian National Army. He was therefore replaced by Subhash Chandra Bose.
Ministers in the Government
Subhash Chandra Bose was the Head of the State. He was also the Prime Minister and the Minister of External Affairs. Captain Dr Lakshmi Swaminadhan was the Minister of Women Organisation. The women army established under her was the first in its kind in the Asian continent. She was a popular gynaecologist in Singapore,
International relations
The Government had diplomatic relations with the Nazis, Italy (Fascists), Croatia, Japan, Thailand, Burma, Philippines, Wang Jingwei Government.
Administration
On the very same day of its existence, Azad Hind declared war against US and Britain. Most of the soldiers in the Indian National Army were Sikhs. The Army was formed by the Sikh man General Mohan Singh. The INA was defeated when it advanced to defend Rangoon from the British without Japanese support. Also, the government established in Andaman and Nicobar Islands also collapsed. Bose was killed in a plane crash when he attempted to escape to Russia.
