Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana: New Kendras
Launched in the year 2015 by the Pharmaceutical Division of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana with the aim to provide affordable healthcare for everyone in the country. Under Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP) around 6,300 Jan Aushadhi Kendras were founded to offer high-quality generics.
About PMBJP
In the year 2008 with the primary aim of making generics accessible to all at affordable prices, the Department of Pharmaceuticals which falls under the ambit of the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers launched the Jan Aushadhi program. In order to revitalize the supply of affordable generic drugs Equivalent in efficacy and quality to brand name drugs, the program was renamed as Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Yojana in the year 2015. Later it was renamed to Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Pariyojana.
Mobile App
The launch of the Jan Aushadhi Sugam mobile app was done to help people find Jan Aushadhi Kendra in their area. A lot of people are using the app to take advantage of affordable generic drugs. This application was developed by the Bureau of Pharma PSU in India (BPPI).
Delivery of medicine during Covid-19
During the Covid 19 pandemic, Swatha Ke Siphai (pharmacist) associated with Jan Aushadhi Kendras began delivering high-quality generics to the door of the elderly.
Jan Ausadhi Kendras
The Jan Ausudhi Kendras are being run by the Bureau of Pharma PSU in India (BPPI) as part of Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana. In these centers all high-quality generic drugs are available. Janaushadhi Kendras sales in the country reached around Rs 600 crore in 2020-21. The number of kendras was 7,500. PMBJP product basket has grown from just 131 products in the year 2014 to 204 surgical items and 1,449 drugs.
Opening of new Jan Aushadhi Kendras
The goal of opening 8,300 Jan Aushadhi Kendras for the 22 fiscal year by the end of the month of September has been achieved by the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI), the executive agency PMBJP. These kendras will ensure easy access to affordable medicines for people in all corners of the country.
