Chandra X-ray observatory

Chandra X-ray observatory is a space telescope launched by NASA on July 23, 1999. It was launched into the outer space to capture X-rays emitted from entities like supernova, clusters of galaxies and matters surrounding black holes. It is more sensitive to faint X-ray sources than its predecessors are.

Recently, the American space agency has released a new image of the Milky Way’s “downtown”. This image consists of 370 observations made by the Chandra X-ray observatory over the past two decades, illustrating numerous stars and blackholes in the centre of the Milky Way. The Milky Way’s centre is located 26,000 light years away from the Earth.
