Reclining Buddha

A Reclining Buddha is a statue or image depicting the Buddha’s final days before his transition to Parinirvana – the stage of great salvation after death attained by the enlightened souls. Buddha passed away at the age of 80, in Kushinagar in eastern Uttar Pradesh. The Reclining Buddha was first depicted in Gandhara Art, which originated between 50 BC and 75 AD.

On the occasion of Buddha Purnima (May 26), India’s largest statue of Reclining Buddha was unveiled at the Buddha International Welfare Mission in Bodh Gaya. This fibreglass statue is 100 feet tall. It was built in over 3 months by a team of 22 artisans in Kolkata.
