Sarayu river

Sarayu river originates from a ridge south of Nanda Kot mountain in Uttarakhand. It passes through several towns in the Himalayan state before discharging into the Sharda River located at the Pancheshwar at the international border between India and Nepal. Sharda River then flows into Ghaghara River in Uttar Pradesh. Sarayu river found mention in the ancient Indian epic Ramayana.

Dozens of bodies believed to be COVID-19 victims have washed up to the banks of the Sarayu River. They were found some 30 km away from the district headquarters, which gets its drinking water supply from this river. Similar incident occurred in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh earlier this month, when bodies were found floating in River Ganga.
