West Bengal wins 2017 Santosh Trophy
West Bengal won the 2017 Santosh Trophy of football by defeating Goa by 1-0 goals. It was 71st edition of Santosh Trophy and overall record 32nd win of West Bengal.
For West Bengal lone winning goal was scored by Manvir Singh at 119th minute of match extended after a goalless 90-minutes’ of regular play. This win ended West Bengal’s six-year wait having last won the title in 2011. Goa last won it in 2009.
About Santosh Trophy
- Santosh Trophy is a premier annual Indian football tournament played in India. It was founded 1941.
- The trophy is named after the late Maharaja Sir Manmatha Nath Roy Chowdhary of Santosh (now it is in Bangladesh).
- It is knock-out competition contested by the regional state associations and government institutions under the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
