CHILDLINE 1098
CHILDLINE 1098 is toll free number of Childline foundation which is India’s first 24-hour, free, emergency phone service for children in need of aid and assistance and long-term care and rehabilitation. CHILDLINE was founded by Ms. Jeroo Billimoria, a professor at the Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), Mumbai. Initiated in June 1996 as an experimental project of the department of Family and Child Welfare of TISS. CHILDLINE is a platform bringing together the Ministry for Women & Child Development, GOI, Department of Telecommunications, street and community youth, non-profit organisations, academic institutions, the corporate sector and concerned individuals for aid, protection and rehabilitation of unattended Childs across India protecting the rights of all children. As of 2011 it received total 21 million calls and has provided assistance and support for 3 million children in 15 years across 210 cities.
