Mitanins
Mitanins are ASHA (accredited social health activists) in Chhattisgarh. The term means ‘female friend’ in the local dialect. They are community health volunteers roped in under the state government’s health program. Each village is assigned a Mitanin. Some of the activities they perform include door-to-door scanning for Covid symptoms, checking up on pregnant women, children and the elderly, etc. There is a rising concern of Mitanins receiving irregular incentives and not being paid bonuses.
