Kerala’s Transgender Policy
Kerala formulated and implemented a welfare policy for transgender people in 2015- making it one of the first states in India to do so. The policy was introduced following the 2014 Supreme Court judgement that upheld the right to equality and equal protection for transgender persons. Under this policy, a transgender justice board was formed to monitor the implementation process. Recently, the Kerala HC directed NCC to amend its Act to offer equal opportunity to transgender persons.
