Kattupalli Port project

Kattupalli Port project proposes to expand the port area between Pulicat Lake and Chennai. This is a project in an ecologically sensitive zone in Tamil Nadu and is to be undertaken by Adani Ports. The project seeks to expand the large shipyard project from the current 330 acres to 6,111 acres. For this purpose, 2,000 acres of the sea is to be reclaimed. According to an environment impact assessment, the expansion could increase the coastal erosion rate to 16 m per year. Project is facing protests from the locals.
