United Bengal Plan
United Bengal Plan was a proposal to form Bengal as a separate nation, independent from India and Pakistan. This was an alternative to the plan to partition colonial India. This was put forth by Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy, the then Prime Minister of Bengal and other Bengali politicians like Sarat Bose and K. S. Roy. The argument behind plan is that partitioning Bengal would be an economic disaster for Eastern Bengal as all the industrial plants, jute mills and coalmines are located in the western part of Bengal. In addition to this, partitioning mean Calcutta would go to Western Bengal.
