Ali Boumendjel

Ali Boumendjel was an Algerian freedom fighter. He was a lawyer who served as an intermediary between the moderates and the revolutionaries when the North African nation was under French rule. He was detained during the Battle of Algiers in 1957- one of the battles of the 8 year long Algerian War of Independence. Recently, the French President acknowledged that Boumendjel was tortured and killed by the French soldiers.
