Vector institute
Vector institute is a biological research centre in Russia. It is one of the two repositories for the smallpox virus. This Siberian-based laboratory had recently announced that it will be launching a research on prehistoric viruses by analysing the remains of animals recovered from melted permafrost. It will also conduct research on virus evolution. Animals to be researched include Yakutsk (prehistoric horse), mammoths, elk, dogs, partridges, rodents, hares and other prehistoric animals.
