‘Walking While Trans’ ban

‘Walking While Trans’ ban is a 1976 US legislation that prohibits loitering for purpose of prostitution. The law allows the New York police to arrest people walking on the streets on mere suspicion of them being sex workers. The vaguely worded law has disproportionately impacted trans women and people of colour (especially Black and Latin Americans). The number of arrests made under this law has been increasing rapidly (120% in 2018). Recently, a bill repealing this law was signed by the New York Governor.
