Turkey’s Preventing Financing of Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction

The Preventing Financing of Proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction is an Act proposed by the ruling party of Turkish government. This bill is intended to comply with the UNSC recommendations to check money laundering and terror financing. The bill empowers the government to appoint trustees to NGOs, monitor their funding source, seize their assets and even suspend their activities. It was passed by the Turkish parliament in late 2020 amidst criticism of violation of rights. Recently, Turkish students started protesting over the appointment of a former political candidate as the Bogazici University’s rector.
